Our Venue

Our venue is located just outside Kendal, in Mealbank – a small industrial estate nestled along the river. The main building houses our Scrapstore, the Crafty Cafe and a Loose Parts Play Space which are open to the public four days a week. This space also includes our ceramics studio, classroom, wood workshop and several artist studios.

Just around the corner is our events building, home to our large carnival creations and a dynamic making space where we host youth arts programs and a variety of workshops. It’s also where we store our overflow of beautiful, inspiring scrap materials and a few more artist studios.

Crafty Cafe

Crafty Café

Our Crafty Café is a great place to come and enjoy a coffee and a delicious cake with a friend. We serve Farrers coffee, hot chocolate, milk shakes and a selection of herbal tea. We also have picnic benches outside, perfect for sunny days.

Ceramic Studio

Our Ceramic Studio

Open to members 7 days a week, our bright and friendly studio features 2 kilns, a wheel, workbenches, and a full range of hand tools - everything you need to create with clay.

Crafty Classroom

Our Crafty Classroom

Our light and airy Crafty Classroom is a welcoming space where creativity thrives. It's where we host fun-filled children's parties and our much-loved Clay Club. Volunteers also use this space to create kits and sort through colourful scrap treasures. The room is available to hire too - ideal for workshops, gatherings, or your own crafty adventures.

Loose Parts Play Space

Visit Our Loose Parts Play Space

Drop into our Loose Parts Play Space for some creative fun. Construct dens, create go-carts, build pirate ships, ice cream shop, design ball runs, catapults, there are no limits to what you can create with loose parts. It is a great place for children to play, use their imagination and have loads of fun!

Discover affordable craft materials, perfect for independent projects, upcycling and school resources, and help divert waste from landfill. Our Scrapstore stock is ever changing, and you can never be certain what you might find. Pop in and see for yourself the goodies we stock.

Wood Workshop

Our Wood Workshop

Our Wood Workshop is a lively, creative space used by our fabulous volunteers who craft loose parts trolleys and a variety of wooden projects - like the beautiful planters we have for sale. Our ReMake volunteers work alongside our skilled woodwork tutor, learning new skills while contributing to meaningful, hands-on projects.

We have 12 light-filled studios spread across two buildings, home to a vibrant mix of artists and craftspeople. While these creative spaces are not open to the public, they play a vital role in the energy and community spirit of our venue.

Room Hire At Ragtag Arts

Affordable room hire at Ragtag Arts & Community Scrapstore in Kendal, Cumbria. Prices start at £36 for three hours with space for up to 30 people. Perfect for yoga, training and community meetings.The Community Classroom is a fantastic versatile space with 6 fold out tables and 30 chairs that easily pack away should the full space be needed. This makes our classroom perfect for activities such as yoga or art classes.

Please note that this room is upstairs and therefore is not suitable for wheelchair access or anyone that can not climb stairs. 

If you require tea and coffee you can purchase these from our cafe downstairs.

  • £12 per hour (weekdays) for min of 3 hours
  • £75 for full day weekdays
  • £15 per hour (weekends) for min 3 hours
  • £95 for full day weekdays
