Located just outside of Kendal, our venue is home to our crafty café and community scrapstore. We also host lots of amazing workshops and events and have a community ceramic studio and artist studios.
We are not confined to our building, you can find us out and about across the North West at festivals and events as well as in schools where we run creative workshops and spread the word – Reuse, Create and Play!
Thanks to funding from Arts Council England and National Lottery Awards for All, this year-long project will celebrate everything we love here at Ragtag: creativity, sustainability, and community. And best of all – everyone’s invited.
We aim to reduce waste, promote environmental responsibility and provide affordable creative resources.
We deliver high quality arts activities and experiences that are accessible to all: inspiring minds, delighting imaginations and nurturing creativity
We value the artist within each of us, using play as a vehicle for creativity. To provide fun, meaningful andlife enriching opportunities for all improving health and wellbeing

Ragtag’s Kids Art Club is a fun and friendly weekly session for children aged 5–11 to explore their creativity, try new things, and let their imaginations run wild. Each week, we dive into a different creative process—from painting and sculpture to printmaking, clay, recycled crafts and more. It’s a space to get messy, make stuff, and have fun in a relaxed, supportive environment. We’ll also be linking in with the new Ragtag Parade project at times, giving Art Club kids the chance to contribute to the big creative carnival—but the focus here is on playful exploration, skill-building, and making for the joy of it.
This is a drop-and-go session – parents can relax in the café downstairs or pop to the nearby supermarkets while we get busy making amazing creations. Please complete this consent form HERE if you plan to leave the building.
Want to try an individual session before committing to the full block? No problem! Get in touch for more details.

We want all children to feel safe, welcome and supported. If your child has any additional needs, please let us know. We ask parents/carers to fill in our short access form (LINK HERE) when booking so we can understand how best to support your child. We may follow up by phone or email if anything needs clarification. And if you’d like to chat things through with us beforehand—we’re always happy to help.
Please note: These sessions do not have dedicated access support workers, so children who need 1:1 support will need to attend with a parent, carer or key worker. Help Build the Ragtag Parade!
We’re really excited to announce a brand new project—Ragtag Parade! Funded by Arts Council England and The National Lottery Awards for All, Ragtag Parade is a joyful, inclusive carnival project that brings people together to create a bold, colourful celebration of creativity, community and sustainability. Running from September 2025 to November 2026, we’ll be working with a diverse mix of people to co-create giant puppets, spectacular costumes, site décor and performances—all made from reclaimed materials from our Scrapstore. It will all come together in parades at festivals across Cumbria, plus a final exhibition celebrating what we’ve made together.
What is Carnival Club?
Carnival Club is your monthly invitation to be part of the making magic. Once a month, we’ll take over the Scrapstore café, classroom and wood workshop for a full day of joyful, hands-on creativity. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or just curious, this is your chance to help build the visual heart of the Ragtag Parade. We’ll be working together on puppets, props, costumes and more, using recycled materials, imagination and a whole lot of glue. These sessions are collaborative, relaxed and open to all skill levels—no experience needed, just enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go. You’ll also have the chance to connect with others, make friends, and be part of something amazing.
